Curriculum & such

We are having a lovely bright week around here--much feasting and lots of family time. I have a load of things to do and can't seem to buckle down? Anyway...

I think this fall's curriculum for the boys is finalized and I've ordered most everything. Here's the plan:
We'll be doing Sonlight (SL) 3+4 Core for both kids along with SL 4 Language Arts and SL 5 Science. My total for these items was about $725 and the boxes should be here tomorrow!

For Math we will be doing Math-U-See and I have already received the three sets I ordered in the mail. They are sitting in the corner of my dining room ready to be packed! This ran me about $200.

I also ordered Rosetta Stone's Spanish levels 1-3 for homeschoolers. The total for this was substantial so I am using the installment plan aka denial plan.

Then there's Bible--we will be doing a combination of daily scripture reading, some workbooks I found at the Orthodox bookstore on the Liturgy, a daily calendar reading that tells about the life of a new saint each day, and reading through/listening to on cd the book Our Young Folks Josephus. I think between this and the church stuff like serving in the altar, Sunday School and all the services we attend, we should be on the correct path.
Anyway, I'm as prepared as can be for that aspect of seminary life. The homeschool thing has me nervous, especially since I will very likely be working, but I will enter it prayerfully and see what happens.

What is A to the NY?

So, I am A.--for anonymity sake, I'll keep it that short. (You probably know me if you are here, anyway.) And "NY" of course stands for New York.

I wanted a little place on the internet to record an adventure I am on with my husband and kids. We are headed to New York in a few months where L. will be entering into seminary life. Everything is a big ??? from there...

Why is this an adventure for us? We are leaving behind a temporary home for another temporary home--an apartment in a cluster of apartments--a community of married students, single students--people all learning and working within the Orthodox Christian Church.

I will need to find a job and we plan to homeschool our two kids. I guess I anticipate this blog to be a place where I will talk about seminary life from a wife and mother's perspective. Here I'll jot down all the homeschool things, all the household things, all the spiritual things I find suitable to share publicly. Should be interesting!

So, join me! :) And let me know what you think...
